Matt was born and raised in Annapolis, MD, and grew up immersed in the varied local music scene, where he heard the native birdsong, bluegrass and folk, the local Navy wind bands and symphony orchestra, played with garage rock bands, and sat in on local jazz jam sessions. Matt received his BM in jazz performance from Manhattan School of Music.
